Unique Type 2 Faeries Deck With 4 Plumeveils Main
May 22, 2009
I thought Faeries was pretty much dead for the Magic The Gathering Standard format. This is sad for me because currently it is the only competitive decklist I own. However, the following Faeries decklist got top 8 at Regionals and it looks solid against tokens including the Black/White variety that has Zealous Persecution main.

Here’s an interview I did with a top 8 player at Regionals. His name is Norm and he played mono white Kithkin. He got 8th place at the 2009 Pittsburgh Regionals. You might know him from his blog, Casual Magic.

Interesting Rogue Deck: Green/White Aggro for Standard
May 19, 2009
If you like aggro, I talked about a mono white Kithkin list yesterday that did well at regionals. Here is another aggro decklist, a green/white one that Greg McCleery ran to a top 8 finish at the Ohio Regionals. Surprisingly, it doesn’t run Spectral Procession or Windbrisk Heights.
Five Color Blood Deck (Post Regionals Update)
May 18, 2009
Patrick Chapin, creator of the Five Color Bloodbraid Elf (5cb) decklist, has a new 5cb list in his article for today. Actually, the list is not from Patrick but from Ari Lax, who won the Great Lakes Regional Championship with the deck. Ari took Patrick’s list and tweaked it. Here’s the list Ari would play today:

Thoughts on Alara Reborn from a Designer and Developer
May 5, 2009
I don’t usually talk about MTG design but this article by Alexis Janson gave a great look at the design process of Alara Reborn.
Check it out. You might even find some info that can help you with your game.
For example, I didn’t know that Intimidation Bolt allowed the targeted creature to still attack. This info might prove valuable if you have a pump spell for the creature.
Alexis writes, “The team decided it was fine that the targeted creature could attack if it survived the 3 damage—after all, if you just shrugged off a bolt of lightning, what’s left to be scared of?”
Also, I didn’t realize that you could get a land with Wargate. Sure, it costs you GWU but if you need a Mountain badly, then Wargate can function as an overcosted Rampant Growth.
Alexis writes, “It’s easy to miss that you can cast this with X = 0 and fetch a land—at one point, this spell only cost XGW making it, in Ken Nagle’s (another designer) words, ‘The sickest Rampant Growth!’ Too sick, actually, which is why it had to be costed at XGWU.”
DraftBetter.com Blogger Breaks 1800 on Magic Online
May 4, 2009
Congrats to my fellow MTG blogger, draftbetter. He just broke 1800 on MTG Online with a sick, sick two color Green/White beatdown decklist featuring not one, not two, but three Akrasan Squires.
MTG Black/White Tokens Decklist With Tech Vs Mirror and Five Color
May 4, 2009
MTG pro, LSV (Luis Scott-Vargas), just released the newest version of Black/White tokens. This version has a full set of Murderous Redcap in the main and a full set of Wrath of God in the side. Having eight persist guys is great against Five Color’s sweepers. The four Wraths along with your persist guys are awesome in the mirror.
Here’s the full decklist.
