Deck Price Tag: Mono Green Eldrazi Ramp
August 27, 2010 | Posted by Dee
Mono Green Ramp is not usually a competitive deck but when you’re ramping up to Eldrazi monsters and have access to many useful lands, you gain enough utility to fight the other top decks. Also, Primeval Titan is one of the best ramp creatures ever, All Is Dust is a powerful battlefield sweeper, and Summoning Trap helps you beat counterspells, which traditionally has been a problem for the archetype.
Conrad Kolos took the following decklist to 3rd place finish in the 2010 US Nationals last weekend. Check out his tournament report (part 1 and part 2).
I highly recommend the deck especially for the post Scars of Mirrodin Standard format since it doesn’t lose much from the rotation.
Interview With a Winning Naya Shaman Player (David Campano)
August 22, 2010 | Posted by Dee
As I said in my previous post about Naya Shaman, I emailed my friend, David Campano, for some tech on the deck. He’s been playing it a lot on Magic Online and has been winning a good percentage of his matches.
He emailed me back some great information (thanks, David!).
The questions in bold are the ones I sent him. The rest of the article is David’s replies. Enjoy
Conley Woods Mono White Life Gain Deck “Soul Sisters” (US Nationals)
August 21, 2010 | Posted by Dee
Conley Woods, MTG pro, brought us yet another cool rogue deck, this time at US Nationals. Dubbed “Soul Sisters” because of Soul Warden and Soul’s Attendant, his newest decklist is a mono white life gain deck that uses Ajani’s Pridemate and Serra Ascendant as its main kill conditions.
It has other life gain cards like Kabira Crossroads, Kor Firewalker, and Survival Cache. Plus, it has Ranger of Eos to search for the sisters and Serra Ascendant and Brave the Elements to protect the creatures and attack through blockers.
Conley went 3-1 with the deck in the Standard portion of day one of U.S. Nationals.
Here is a video of him talking about the deck.
Naya Shaman Toolbox Deck
August 20, 2010 | Posted by Dee
A reader contacted me and asked me to do a post on Naya Shaman. The deck is pretty popular so I thought I’d give my thoughts. Keep in mind though, I haven’t played too many matches with it. I’ve gone 4-1 in rated matches, but that was over a week ago. Even though I was winning, I felt like the deck wasn’t that powerful. Against the good players, it seemed like I had gotten lucky draws to win and plus RG Valakut had become popular. Valakut is an unfavorable matchup.
But I think I’m wrong in my analysis of the power of the deck. The deck keeps showing up as a winning deck on Magic Online’s tournament results. My friend, David, has been doing well with it. I just emailed him some questions about his list. Hopefully, he’ll reply and give us some tech.
While I haven’t played many matches with the deck, like I said, I have seen many winning lists. With this research, I’ve seen which cards keep showing up.
So in this article, I’ll go over some of the card choices to help you build a strong version for your metagame.
Wafo-Tapa UW Sun Titan Control
August 18, 2010 | Posted by Dee
Guillaume Wafo-Tapa’s top eight UW Control Deck from French Nationals has become one of the top Standard decks post Magic 2011. Different versions of it have been doing well on Magic Online, Magic-League, and probably countless FNMs all over the world.
In this premium article, Hall of Famer Antoine Ruel thought the deck was probably the best in French Nationals. In the tournament, Wafo-Tapa went 6-0-1 in the swiss Standard rounds and won his quarterfinals match. He had a chance to become the National Champion but he scooped the next two matches (the last match was to determine 3rd and 4th place). His friend, Erwann Maisonneuve went 7-0 with the same list to finish in the Top 16. Also, he won an LCQ (Last Chance Qualifier) with it the day before the tournament.
Deck Price Tag: Bant Mass Polymorph

I just found this funky Bant Mass Polymorph deck that went undefeated in a Standard Daily Tournament on Magic Online. It looks like it’s two cards off from Frank Lepore’s list from TCGplayer. Frank also did well with the deck, going 5-1-1 to make the finals in an FNM a couple weeks ago.
As of today, the deck is just over $400.
Deck Price Tag: Jund
August 12, 2010 | Posted by Dee
I’ve written posts about Jund before but I’ve never figured out the price of the deck. So, here’s a deck price tag of one of the best decks in Standard over the past 10 months.
I’m glad Jund was cheaper than many of the other top decks. It allowed players to play a really good deck without having to buy or trade for a bunch of expensive mythic rares.
The list I chose went undefeated in a Daily Tournament yesterday on Magic Online.
