Five Color Blood Deck (Post Regionals Update)

May 18, 2009 | Posted by Dee

Bloodbraid ElfPatrick Chapin, creator of the Five Color Bloodbraid Elf (5cb) decklist, has a new 5cb list in his article for today. Actually, the list is not from Patrick but from Ari Lax, who won the Great Lakes Regional Championship with the deck. Ari took Patrick’s list and tweaked it. Here’s the list Ari would play today:

Five Color Bloodbraid Elf
Creatures (16)
Spells (18)
Lands (26)
Sideboard (15)

The decklist is very good and only really has problems with Chameleon Colossus pre-sideboard. You can race most other decklists packing Anathemancer because you have Kitchen Finks for lifegain, Jund Charm to respond to the unearth trigger, and Cruel Ultimatum for lifegain and direct damage (Lava Axe you!).

The cascade cards are very powerful. I just beat someone in a match 2-0. I won both games by playing Bituminous Blast, cascading into Bloodbraid Elf, and then cascading into a relevant three mana spell. The first game it was Maelstrom Pulse for his last blocker and the second game it was a lethal Anathemancer for 6 damage.
