A Couple Games With the Swans Type 2 Decklist
February 25, 2009
I played a couple games with the Swans deck I wrote about yesterday. I played against these two decklists: Bant aggro control and Esper Reveillark.
Here is the Swans list again for reference sake.
| Swans | |||||||||||
Creatures (4) Spells (29) | Lands (27) Sideboard (15) |
| |||||||||
Let me tell you. This decklist seems to be for real. It’s got powerful cards against aggro and a lot of counterspells and card drawing to fight control.
Against Bant Aggro Control
I played one game.
I burned his early creatures and then played two Mutavaults. I protected the Mutavaults with counterspells and the manlands went all the way for the win.
Against EsperLark
In the first game, I was on the play. I countered his turn two Tidehollow Sculler with Remove Soul. Then, I untapped and played Seismic Assault. He played Mulldrifter but I had Swans of Bryn Argoll.
Now that I had the combo, I turned my three card hand of two lands and a spell into a seven card hand with two lands and five spells. I passed the turn and he played Wrath of God.
However, I had Jace Beleren and then another Swans on the next turn. He tried to Wrath and steal Swans with Sower of Temptation but with all my card advantage, I drew Broken Ambitions for his Wrath and Incinerate for Sower of Temptation.
I sideboarded like this:
-1 Chandra Nalaar
-4 Broken Ambitions
-1 Swans of Bryn Argoll
-2 Pyroclasm
+3 Volcanic Fallout
+2 Sower of Temptation
+2 Glen Elendra Archmage
+1 Negate
In game two, I tried a turn three Jace Beleren but he had Negate. Then, we just played lands for a couple of turns.
I got a Mutavault but he had Path to Exile. I tried another Jace and won the counterspell war. He summoned Glen Elendra Archmage but I stole it with Sower of Temptation. This was a huge swing and he conceded soon afterward.
He asked for a rematch and I said, “Sure.”
I think he made a big mistake in this game. He had Stillmoon Cavalier but instead of leaving it to block, he attacked even though I had Swans out. I was more than happy to trade hits. He finally realized he was losing the race. He tried to Wrath but I had a counterspell and we were off to the second game.
I sideboarded a little bit differently:
-4 Pyroclasm
-2 Seismic Assault
-1 Chandra Nalaar
-4 Broken Ambitions
+2 Sower of Temptation
+2 Glen Elendra Archmage
+3 Volcanic Fallout
+1 Banefire
+3 Vendilion Clique
He played two Tidehollow Sculler. I didn’t have a counterspell so he ravaged my hand. However, I topdecked Volcanic Fallout. I played it when he tried to attack and he disconnected.
Got something to say?
