The Elf tribe got some new cards in Magic 2013 so I built a Mono Green Elves aggro deck for Standard. If you like playing Elves, Magic 2013 gives you another one-drop mana creature, a creature that draws you a card, and a big legendary creature with flash.
After some playtesting and tuning, the Elves deck turned out to be decent. It doesn’t have the power level of a tier one deck like Blue/White (UW) Delver but I think it could do well at FNMs.
Check out the decklist below.

Yesterday, Steve Guillerm published a Mono Green Infect deck for post Magic 2013 (M13) Standard. The deck included Rancor, which is reprinted in M13 and is one of the best creature enchantments for all time.
With the addition of this enchantment, I had to try out the deck.
So far, I’ve played five matches with sideboard and I’ve won them all. I’m sure I got lucky in some games but the deck felt pretty powerful. I definitely recommend it for FNM.
It’s not too expensive compared to other decks and Rancor really combos well with Infect creatures.

It’s tough to be a red mage these days in Standard. Red just doesn’t have as many good cards compared to the other colors.
Don’t get me wrong. It’s a decent secondary color if you want to play Huntmaster of the Fells, Bonfire of the Damned, Zealous Conscripts, or Falkenrath Aristocrat. But you definitely don’t see a lot of top decks with red as the main color.
The power level of red cards is just not very high. Plus, you’ve got all those hate cards like Timely Reinforcements, Sword of War and Peace, and Celestial Purge.
Fortunately, it looks like Wizards wants red to be good again by designing powerful red cards in Magic 2013. We’ve already seen some good Goblin cards. And earlier this week, Mark Rosewater spoiled an awesome red dragon.
Say hello to Thundermaw Hellkite, one of the best cards in Magic 2013.

In his column yesterday, Mark Rosewater said there would be lords in Magic 2013. Today, TCGplayer previewed one of those lords.
Master of the Pearl Trident is a two mana 2/2 creature that buffs your Merfolk creatures and gives them islandwalk. Check out the card below.

On the latest The Magic Show, Evan Erwin spoiled a new planeswalker from Magic 2013: Ajani, Caller of the Pride.
This new Ajani planeswalker only costs three mana, making him only the third planeswalker with that cheap casting cost. His abilities are very creature oriented so he looks like a card for aggro decks.
Check out Ajani, Caller of the Pride below.

Luis Scott-Vargas (LSV) recently previewed Thragtusk, a Magic 2013 green creature that you’ll be seeing a lot in Standard.
This card is really good for a couple of reasons. First, it’s awesome against the top deck in the metagame, Blue/White (UW) Delver. Second, it’s good against a wide spectrum of cards, from Vapor Snag and Doom Blade to Geralf’s Messenger and Day of Judgment.
Third, it interacts well with other good cards. Fourth, it’s undercosted and easy to cast. Thragtusk’s only colored mana requirement is one green so many decks can play it without wrecking their manabase.
Check out Thragtusk below.

It’s interesting that right after Wizards previewed Sublime Archangel, a four mana white creature that gets better the more creatures you have on the battlefield, they spoil a similar four mana white creature.
Odric, Master Tactician costs the same as Sublime Archangel and has a similar body. However, he actually doesn’t play well with the mythic Angel because his special ability requires more than one attacker. In fact, it requires you to have at least four attackers.
Check out Odric below.

If your opponent is way ahead of you on the board and has a lot of cards in hand, you need a reset button to basically start the game over. I recommend casting Worldfire, a new preview card from Magic 2013.

Yesterday, Wizards spoiled a really powerful four mana Angel. This creature takes the exalted mechanic to the next level. She has exalted and she gives each of your creatures exalted.
She definitely adds a new dimension to decks that can flood the board with a bunch of creatures. Check out Sublime Archangel below.

Here are two awesome Goblin cards from Magic 2013. The first is a rare legendary creature that works well with all the other Goblins in Standard. The other card is a common that makes Goblin Grenade, Goblin Chieftain, and Goblin Wardriver better.
