Early PTQ Schedule for Pro Tour San Diego
September 10, 2009
Thestarkingtonpost has an early look at the schedule of the upcoming Zendikar sealed Pro Tour Qualifiers (PTQs). Here’s the link.
The list is not complete since some tournament organizers have not finalized their PTQs. But the list does have a good number of PTQs already.
Paul Rietzl’s Magic The Gathering Hall of Fame Ballot
July 14, 2009
From Thestarkingtonpost:
I didn’t think Hall of Fame voting was going to be so hard this year. After eliminating everyone I had not heard of or had a negative impression of, I ranked all the remaining players using criteria such as integrity, sportsmanship, general contributions to the Pro Tour, quality of finishes and how scary they are/were as an opponent. Ultimately many of my close friends ranked quite well as you can imagine because I know more about them.
Two MTG Pros Fight to Make the Top 8 of GP-LA More Fair
January 25, 2009
Bill Stark has a great story about Mark Herberholz and Michael Jacob, two Magic The Gathering pros.
In Grand Prix–Los Angeles, for some reason, the head judge did not give out the decklists to the top 8 players. (Giving out the decklists is standard procedure.) Mark and Michael had an advantage since they were able to access the internet with their cell phones. Before the top 8, they had knowledge of some of the top 8 decklists since those decklists were covered already on Wizards.com.
I Finally Created an About Page

Most sites seem to have an about page. I finally created mine. If you want to know more about me, here’s my about page.
Interesting 4 Player Shards/Shards/Shadowmoor Draft
December 19, 2008
Yesterday, I went to my local card shop. Actually, it wasn’t so local. I had to drive for about an hour and a half. It’s not too bad though since I work at home. I don’t have a work commute so I don’t mind occasionally driving a long ways to play live Magic The Gathering. Plus, I was getting tired of Magic Online. I wanted to play real cards against real people.
No MTG States for Me
October 24, 2008
Sadly, I won’t be going to States this year. I think I’ll be too unprepared.
I haven’t had time to test the Standard format and I don’t have the cards for a good deck. I could try to get caught up with the format by doing a lot of testing in the next two weeks. However, my time is limited because of work. I think my time would be better spent testing Shards of Alara sealed and draft. There is a PTQ in eight days and I can do a lot of testing on Magic Online now that Shards of Alara has been released online.
The Biggest Magic The Gathering Tournament Ever
October 21, 2008
Grand Prix Paris had 1839 players!
There were probably more judges in this tournament than the 71 person PTQ I went to last weekend. This picture shows only one half of the players.

Even the Best MTG Players Make Dumb Mistakes
September 24, 2008
From the Japanese Nationals, widely considered to be one of the toughest Magic The Gathering national tournaments:
Wanting to keep the pressure on Takahashi, Masashi was forced to use a Pact of Negation on a Cryptic Command from his opponent targeting an un-suspending Riftwing Cloudskate. Conspicuously he failed to put a marker on the top of his deck to remind him to pay the requisite 3UU during his following upkeep.
Yuuta’s turn went long after a series of plays and, sure enough, by the time Masashi got the turn back he had completely forgotten about his Pact. With an audible gasp Oiso drew for the turn as the audience could only watch in horror. Immediately realizing what he had done Oiso shuffled up his cards and conceded to Takahashi.
Masashi Oiso is one of the best players to ever play Magic The Gathering. He is eligible to be voted in the Pro Tour Hall of Fame in the class of 2012.
Amazingly, even with his bonehead play, he still won the whole tournament!
