Worldwake Spoilers: Evaluating Celestial Colonnade

It’s the spoiler season for Worldwake! Here’s a land that should be a fixture in control decks.

Celestial Colonnade is part of the five card dual land cycle in Worldwake.

Standard Impact

Man-lands like Treetop Village have historically been tournament staples because they are essential free spells. Celestial Colonnade is better than the old man-lands. Sure, it costs more to activate but it can produce two colors of mana instead of one and you get a bigger creature.

It will be widely played and should replace Sejiri Refuge in UW Control and UWR Control.

Bant Midrange and Esper Control will probably only play 1-2 since they have the Shards of Alara tri-lands and you don’t want too many lands that come into play tapped.

Limited Impact

It’s a rare so you won’t see it much. It’s a solid card but it’s not better than the existing premier removal and creatures. Still, you’ll be first picking it because it will be a chase rare.

Financial Outlook

I think it will be worth about $10. It may cause a small price dip to its M10 counterpart, Glacial Fortress. It won’t completely replace it though because like I said, some decks won’t be able to play a full set.

The Colonnade is currently going on eBay for around $4 each. Although it fluctuates a lot. I predict it will increase for sure, however. It should go for at least $6…

$10 seems a bit too high!

I was thinking $10 retail but for eBay that would be about $8.

I still think $10 is probably right since that’s the current price of Glacial Fortress. Plus, man-lands should have casual appeal with the “lands matter” theme in Zendikar and Worldwake.

I am not sure where you are buying Glacial Fortresses for $10… on most online stores they are $7. They used to be $6 a little while ago. I suppose if you buy singles from your local stores or StarCityGames (with their retardedly inflated prices), it would be $10. But I would not use that price when predicting singles’ prices since those prices are clearly over-inflated. They are easily available elsewhere for much cheaper!

Lauren, good point and thanks for the links. I’ll use those sites in my future financial card outlooks.

I didn’t realize how much SCG inflated their prices.

    Hey Dee,
I was wondering what you thought of Omnath, locus of mana, do you think it has any applications in standard? Obviously this card will be well used in casual, but do you think it will be helpful in T2? (Nissa Monument, anybody?) If so, what would you move around in existing decks to fit it in? I’ve looked at Monument, seems that at the very least it’s sideboard material… But I don’t know much…

    Thank you!

Omnath, seems too inconsistent for Standard since it dies to a lot of stuff and there aren’t many good green instants. Plus, it doesn’t have evasion.

I could be wrong though. The card is very unique so it’s hard to evalutate.

Hm, just thought of this. Omnath could work with Vines of Vastwood to protect it at instant speed.

HI i was wondering does this card have summoning sickness and therefore is it only for blocking?

I doesn’t have summoning sickness if it was in play the previous turn.
