Interesting Rogue Deck: Green/White Aggro for Standard

If you like aggro, I talked about a mono white Kithkin list yesterday that did well at regionals. Here is another aggro decklist, a green/white one that Greg McCleery ran to a top 8 finish at the Ohio Regionals. Surprisingly, it doesn’t run Spectral Procession or Windbrisk Heights.

Maindeck
Greg found an powerful combination with Gaddock Teeg and Dauntless Escort. Some GW players don’t play Gaddock Teeg because it’s a fragile creature but with Dauntless Escort you can protect the legendary Kithkin.
It may not seem like Gaddock Teeg is not currently well-positioned in the standard metagame, but there are enough cards he shuts down. Off the top of my head, I’m can think of Ajani Goldmane, Wrath of God, Cryptic Command, Overrun, Spectral Procession, Profane Command, Garruk Wildspeaker, Bituminous Blast, Banefire, Primal Command, and Cruel Ultimatum.
The rest of the maindeck seems pretty straightforward. It has acceleration with Llanowar Elves and Noble Hierarch. These one-drops allow you to play the strong three-drops, Boggart Ram-Gang and Wilt-Leaf Cavaliers, on turn two. The Cavaliers are especially good versus Kitchen Finks, Bloodbraid Elf, and opposing Boggart Ram-Gangs.
And then playing turn three Chameleon Colossus or Wilt-Leaf Liege is usually “good game” for your opponent. Chameleon Colossus has largely been forgotten but it is now a good card in the current metagame because it’s hard to kill by non-white decks. The shapeshifter can’t be killed by Incinerate and it dodges Terror, Maelstrom Pulse, and Bituminous Blast. It blocks Putrid Elf all day. It’s especially good against Five Color Bloodbraid Elf.
Behemoth Sledge is tech that I’ve been trying to find a deck for because it’s great against tokens. It looks like Greg found the cards that work well with this devastating equipment.
Sideboard
I find Greg’s sideboard to be more rogue than his maindeck. He has a couple cards that don’t see a lot of tournament play.
In his tournament report, he said the Stonehewer Giant was possibly the best card in the entire decklist because it won races versus tokens and midrange. Vigilance and the ability to not only tutor Behemoth Sledge, but equip it on a creature, is very strong in creature battles.
Because of the lifegain in this decklist, Hurricane is better card than Cloudthresher versus BW Tokens. It can serve as a finisher as well as a sweeper. Still, you do want Cloudthresher for Faeries because of its instant speed.
Recumbent Bliss is an interesting card that stops Doran, the Siege Tower and strands other copies of the legendary Treefolk in your opponents hand. Plus, the overlooked white enchantment is good against red. It even neutralizes Anathemancer so it can’t chump block and then be unearthed.
And don’t sleep on Snakeform. It’s pretty good against the unsuspecting Reveillark player.

I really like this deck (I’m putting my vendetta against Chameleon Colossus aside when I say this).
I think it did so well is because it is a bit off main path and plays a lot of great cards. I think most players have trouble dealing with decks they don’t expect. I also heard that the Columbus regionals saw a lot of Bant variants. There were very few and none at the top tables in Pittsburgh. I wonder how this deck matched up against faeries and revelark.
Yeah, the surprise factor is why I like playing rogue decks.
I think this deck would do well against Faeries. Faeries seems to struggle against super aggressive decks. Lark is probably a bad matchup especially game 1 because of Wrath of God, Lark, and Sower. Snakeform is good in the sideboard but it’s probably not enough.
