MTG Mono White Kithkin Deck For The New Standard Format

September 19, 2008

I just came across this mono white kithkin build that won the 2008 Argentina Nationals. This Kithkin list should be a pretty good in the new Standard format, starting October 3, 2008 when Shards of Alara is released.

Mono White Kithkin Aggro
The italicized cards will not be Standard legal on October 3, 2008.

Maindeck:   Sideboard:
4 Burrenton Forge-Tender 3 Mutavault 1 Ajani Goldmane
4 Cloudgoat Ranger 4 Rustic Clachan 3 Faerie Macabre
4 Figure of Destiny 14 Snow-Covered Plains 4 Gelid Shackles
1 Goldmeadow Stalwart 4 Windbrisk Heights 1 Kinsbaile Borderguard
3 Kinsbaile Borderguard   4 Mana Tithe
4 Knight of Meadowgrain   2 Oversoul of Dusk
4 Wizened Cenn

3 Glorious Anthem
2 Mirrorweave
2 Oblivion Ring
4 Spectral Procession

All the cards in the maindeck will not rotate out. Well, except the Snow-Covered lands but those are easily replaced.

Only eight cards in the sideboard will not be legal:

4 Gelid Shackles
4 Mana Tithe

I would probably move 2 Burrenton Forge-Tender to the sideboard because Mono Red Aggro will not be as strong in the new Standard format. Mono Red will lose several of its key cards: Skred, Blood Knight, and Magus of the Moon.

I’d keep the Tenders in, at least going into an unknown metagame, because there are still too many control decks that maindeck Firespouts or Pyroclasm for mass removal. I never really thought of the Tenders as opposition to mono red so much as a defense against getting Firespouted out of the game.

Good point. Totally forgot about Firespouts.

There goes my hope for a tier one mono red deck in the post-rotation Standard :(

run 4 stalwarts, it will pump an extra damage through on turn two if you drop a wizend cenn. borderguard is good but not main deck, id run two sideboard so if they are playing wrath of God then side him in for insurance, his ability only activates when he hits the graveyard so hes easily removed. and one mutavault will go a long way. also ajani needs to be main decked and atleast 2. elseph, knight earrant is good sideboard or main deck. and rather than the fairy macabre id run becon apparition because its 1mana instant that also gets you a token. other than that its a very solid kithkin deck. also think about running O-ring sideboard and Unmake maindeck.

Got something to say?
