Mono White Kithkin – Regionals Top 8
May 18, 2009
Congrats to my fellow MTG blogger, Norm, for making top 8 at his regionals. He played the following Mono White Kithkin decklist.
| Mono White Kithkin | |||||||||||
Creatures (22)
Spells (13) Lands (25) | Sideboard (15) |
| |||||||||
The list looks pretty solid. I didn’t think Goldmeadow Harrier was good at first, but after some thought, she’s probably better than Goldmeadow Stalwart. She’s basically removal on a Kithkin body. She can stop big creatures like Chameleon Colossus, Doran, the Siege Tower, and Reveillark. She can even do a good Rishadan Port impression on Noble Hierarch and other creatures that tap for mana.
Ajani Goldmane takes the spot over Glorious Anthem because Ajani is much better versus GW and BW tokens.
The 4 Wilt-Leaf Liege are great against tokens because that matchup is all about anthem superiority. And this list has 12 anthem effects (Liege, Wizened Cenn, and Ajani), which is more than all the token decks.
Also, the anthem effects neutralize Zealous Persecution, which is in the maindeck of many BW decklists.
Norm beat BW Tokens 3 out of 4 times. I bet his sideboard helped a lot. Stillmoon Cavalier hasn’t seen much play because of Zealous Persecution, but Norm has 8 anthems that can boost his fragile one toughness. And Martial Coup is probably the best thing you can do at 7 mana vs BW tokens.

Got something to say?

Thanks.
Wilt-leaf Liege was really strong in this deck. Twice I pulled the liege x 2 out from Windbrisk Heights while swinging with Spectral Procession tokens.
Harrier was also better than Stalwart because it made a difference in late/mid game. Tapping down that one Bitterblossom token was key more than once in swinging in for lethal.
As for Martial Coup I might have switched with Wrath because I never was able to play the spell for its wrath effect all day. I either didn’t have the mana or didn’t have the card when I wanted it.
Cool, thanks for the info. Wrath might work or maybe even Austere Command to knock out BW’s enchantments.
