Oblivion Ring Vs. Agony Warp in Conflux Draft

February 25, 2009 | Posted by Dee

I still can’t get over a top Magic The Gathering pro taking Agony Warp over Oblivion Ring. However, as I thought about it, I came up with a reason why he did that.

Maybe he thought that there would be a lot of aggro decks in his draft pod. Aggro is pretty strong in Alara/Alara/Conflux draft. Agony Warp might be better against aggro since it can function as Lightning Helix and save you some life points.

While this reason is valid, I’m still rating Oblivion Ring higher. It might be worth testing though and seeing if these cards are closer than conventional wisdom would suggest.

Agony Warp can go two-for-one depending on the scenario. I think that just depends on the signal.

Mark, good point. Thanks for bringing it up. I mentioned it in the Shuuhei post but I should’ve brought it up again.

I just noticed that you use the Revolution Theme too. Cool stuff. I like your site design.

I’m also thinking that if he saw the packs and was confident that he could deal with a planes walker or other threat agony warp was the better option.

Also what pack was it? Could he have been banking on picking up another agony warp or oblivion ring?

It was pack 2 pick 1.
