Predicting the Top MTG Decks in the New Extended Format

Luis Scott-Vargas talks about post-rotation Extended format that starts early next month when Shards of Alara is released. He makes predictions on the top Magic The Gathering decklists in the new metagame.

The top two decks will be Affinity and UrzaTron. Affinity doesn’t lose any cards while Tron only loses Fact or Fiction and Moment’s Peace. Gifts Ungiven can replace Fact or Fiction. And Blue/White Tron doesn’t need Moment’s Peace.

Below these two decks, you’ll have:

  • 5-color or Red/Green aggro
  • Rock (Green/Black with Doran)

These decks may be possible:

  • Storm (using Mind’s Desire and big mana producers like Seething Song and Lotus Bloom)
  • Life from the Loam (can abuse the retrace mechanic)

Previous Level Blue could be pretty good.
