Previous Level Blue, MTG Control Deck for the New Extended
September 16, 2008 | Posted by Dee
Paul Cheon won Grand Prix Vancouver earlier this year with Previous Level Blue. In this video, pro player Luis Scott-Vargas (LSV) gives us some tips on building this mostly blue Magic the Gathering deck for the new Extended format.
Show Notes
Previous Level Blue only loses Counterspell and Sensei’s Divining Top after the Extended rotation.
LSW splashes red for Magus of the Moon. This seems like a great addition since the deck plays enough basic lands.
Previous Level Blue is your basic blue control deck with 15 counterspells. No other deck in the format has that many counterspells.
Your goal is to stick a threat like Tarmogoyf or Vedalken Shackles and protect it with counter magic. Ancestral Vision also counts as a threat. Three cards for one mana is oftentimes enough to overwhelm your opponent.
Vedalken Shackles is really good against the Doran Rock decks.
