BW Tokens Without Tidehollow Sculler (Top 4 Result in 2009 Regionals)
May 20, 2009
Here’s an interesting take of BW Tokens without Tidehollow Sculler. This decklist got top 4 in the Orlando Regionals.
| Black/White Tokens | |||||||||||
Creatures (11) Spells (24) | Lands (25)
Sideboard (15) |
| |||||||||
This decklist seems very good if you expect a lot of token decklists since it has 2 Wrath of God and a full set of Zealous Persecution. I was surprised to see Tidehollow Sculler cut but it is not that great against aggro. You’d rather be playing Wrath and Murderous Redcap.
Batwing Brume is an overlooked sideboard card that’s good versus the mirror because it’s an instant speed surprise that helps you win the race.

Got something to say?

Cutting Sculler just seems like such a bad move. When I’ve played against B/W Tokens, my losses come pretty much directly on the back of getting a key sweeper or removal card Scullered out of my hand. It’s true that it’s not so hot against, say, R/x aggro, but it seems great in so many other matchups.
We have a PTQ coming up this Saturday; I’ll have to see how Scullered up our B/W representatives are.
I’m bored for play B/W tokens hehe

This is actually the only top BW list that I’ve seen without Sculler. I agree that it’s awesome it many matchups but if you expect a lot of BW and Red aggro, it might be right to cut it.
It’s probably right not to cut it in the current metagame since it looks like the metagame is shifting more to control instead of aggro.
Also, there will probably be a higher variety of archetypes as fog seems to be scaring a good number of the token players. Sculler is a great choice in a varied metagame, imo.
