Tezzeret the Seeker Control Deck for MTG Type 2/Standard

February 27, 2009

It’s interesting to see the Magic The Gathering planeswalker, Tezzeret the Seeker, have an impact in Vintage and Extended yet not really find a home in Standard. However, Zac Hill (who played in a recent Pro Tour) might have brewed up a contender with this blue Shards of Alara mythic rare. He says the following build is pretty good.

Tezzeret Control
Spells (34)
Lands (26)
Sideboard (15)

However, he advises that you have to play quickly and watch out for slow play because the decklist is a very slow control list.

There are no creatures, which is great since all of your opponent’s creature kill cards are useless against you.

You only have five cards as win conditions.

You have four Tezzerets. You can activate his ultimate ability when you have a lot of artifacts out and swing for 20.

And you have the one Mistveil Plains. You can replenish your library over and over and just wait for your opponent to draw his whole decklist. That’s a really slow way of winning. I wouldn’t try that route unless you have a lot of time left in the round.

esper artifacts are by far (in my opinion obviously) the strongest shard. I like that this deck has no creature spells, it intrigues me… however, i would advise anyone who wants to play an esper should run artifacts, for a couple reasons, 1. Artifacts are hard to target via kill spells, since about 70% say target non black, non artifact, 2. with cards like a scour glass and sharuum the hegemon, how could u not be tempted? I personally run a deck with four master transmuters, three sharuums, and two sphinx of the steel winds… slow, deff not… with etherium sculptors and the proper mana accelerators, you could in theory have a shphinx of the steel wind out by turn three…dont laugh, i do it all the time. Also, lightning greaves helps tremendously…

Got something to say?
