]]> By: maarten http://magicgameplan.com/blog/why-you-should-be-netdecking/comment-page-1/#comment-1170 maarten Fri, 15 Jan 2010 19:08:16 +0000 http://magicgameplan.com/blog/why-you-should-be-netdecking/#comment-1170 when magic the gathering was made the objective of the game was to have fun. this they stimulated with creating hundreds of cards and so it is possible for the player to come up with eventually an infinity amount of idea's of decks. the whole concept of the so called "netdecks" started when people where putting there decks online because they where proud of there decks or because they wanted others opinion on how to make it better. so the original "netdecks" where decks made at home with a lot of blood sweat and tears. later Wizards of the Coast took over the concept of putting decks online and posted the winning decks of big tournaments online. they did this so people could learn how to build better decks and have not every creation they made be crushed and take away the fun of building the deck in the first place. The most fun thing is that i no almost not a single big tournament winner that won with a copy of the "netdeck" the main reason for this is because if you take the 2 decks from online and let them play each other say for instance 2 jund decks there is no component of skill involved anymore there is only your topdecks and knowing the deck. like i said before almost all the tournament winners these days have there concept from the net but adjusted it or even made the deck and let it become a "netdeck" like that new green deck with nissa in it. so my first argument why you shouldn't play "netdecks" is because yes you will have a higher chance of winning if you SUCK ad building a deck but the only why to win is not by skill but by luck. my second argument against "netdecks" is that you play indeed as Lee said the game of Magic the Gathering has two parts Deck Building and Playing. and they are as big if not even that Deck Building is a slightly bigger component. Now imagine that you want to go study at a university but instead of choosing you major yourself you choose a major because it is "popular". will you make a lot of money? yes probably. will you be happy? eventually if you learn to suppress your true self. Is it a reflection what you are and who you are and so get the same feeling who choose his own major? HELL NO. so the same with "netdecks" if fun fore a while (Maybe) but you will never experience the whole excitement about the game of MTG. as a last remark, "netdecks" are there to inspire not to copy. i have been to so many PTQ's in my life i can't count them on 2 hands and feet and i see it over and over again. 75-90% is netdeck and they are all there to win and not to have fun (with exeptions) but the 5-25% that didn't "netdeck" come reletively speaking higher in the rankings and have a lot more fun in playing the game.
